Snacktime!

Snacktime!

Now that we're through one half of the first month of the new year, I wanted to check in with you to see how things are going food-wise. It seems the concept of snacking has acquired a bad name.  To me, snacking is one of the ways we most pleasantly manage our hunger, our blood sugar and our energy level.  Without snacking, mealtime can quickly become gorge-time.

The critical factor with snacking is the food you select.  Here are some
suggestions I think work pretty well:

  1. Fresh or lightly steamed veggies
  2. Whole wheat pita and hummus
  3. Seasonal fruit , plain or with a thin skim of peanut butter
  4. a cup of soup - wonderfully satisfying
  5. a small portion of walnuts, raisins and dark chocolate - my favorite, and easy to transport
  6. a glass of lemon flavored water
  7. a cup of herbal tea or chai

When you are on the go, always take some health snacks with you.  As one
health conscious personal trainer once said to me, 'when the moment
comes that I have to eat, if I don't have something healthy with me, a
magnet pulls me right to Dunkin Donuts' - can you relate???

Another benefit of healthy snacking is it is easier to reduce the
portions of your meals when you don't sit down at the table with intense
hunger.

As always, I am here to support you in finding effective ways to manage
your health through healthy eating and a balanced lifestyle. If you are
ready for my personalized program, I would be honored to work with you.

Warm regards,
Peg
