Think again! The best way for you to have control over the quality of the foods you and your family are eating is to select and prepare it yourself. Eating healthy, clean food on a regular basis is one of the few things we can do that will directly impact our health.
Here are some easy tips to get your started:
Phase I
- take an inventory of your pantry, your refrigerator and your freezer
- remove products that are outdated
- remove products containing partially or fully hydrogenated oils
- remove products with artificial sweeteners
- thoroughly clean all cabinets and refrigerator for a new and fresh start
Phase II
- make a grocery list of items you want to have on hand
- include an array of spices, seasonings and broth
- purchase a variety of beans, whole wheat pasta and grains and store in air tight containers
- buy good quality peanut and almond butter
- purchase soy products like tofu and soy-based yogurt
- try calcium fortified rice and soy milk for a change
- if you eat meat, buy hormone and anibiotic free only
- purchase a variety of teas and juice without added sugar
- purchase a selection of dried fruits and nuts
- fill your vegetable and fruit bins with local and organic fruit when possible and in season
- have easy access to filtered drinking water
- purchase good quality olive and canola oils and apple and balsamic vinegars
When you have these items in your kitchen, you will find it is much easier to prepare meals that are healthy and nourishing and delicious.
