10 Food Safety Tips

Why it matters

Foods with additives and chemicals stress your body, can affect reproductive health, and overall make your body work harder to protect you from disease.  Here are 10 things you can do to when making food choices::

What to look for

  1. buy meat and poultry with no added hormones or antibiotics

  2. buy whole grain bread with as few ingredients as possible

  3. refer to ewg.org dirty dozen list and always choose organic for those 12 fruits and veggies

  4. buy organic milk if you drink dairy milk

  5. avoid packaged products like Hamburger Helper; make your own seasonings

  6. buy whole cheese, not ‘lite’ or ‘spread’

  7. never buy diet soda; soda is a poor choice, but diet soda is worse

  8. make your own cookies to avoid chemicals in packaged ones

  9. vary your food choices to avoid food sensitivities

  10. cook with stainless steel, ceramic, glass, and cast-iron pots and pans; no non-stick
