Whether we’re talking nutrition, successful family, community or career relationships, expecting perfection can be our nemesis. What if your goal was to have it “right” instead of perfect? Here are some techniques that may help you find solutions that lead to a higher sense of satisfaction and happiness:
Identify your inner obstacles
What are you saying to yourself? Do you only remind yourself of what you’re doing wrong, or can you look at what’s going well and build from there?
Appreciate the Lessons and Gifts of Your Past
What did I learn when I ‘fell off the wagon?’ Did I see that my goal wasn’t realized because I tried to do too much at once?
Get into the Present, as Your Life Is Right Now
Are you taking care of yourself and creating space to do what you want to do?
Make a Plan
It has to be realistic and achievable so you can be successful. Small steps are the most successful steps.
Create Affirmations
Affirmations are simple statements that are positive in nature and are best created through your own imagination. I’ve used them often through the years and recently renewed the practice of creating one every day. Mine today is ‘there is pleasure to be found in everything I do. I just have to notice it’
I hope these ideas and techniques brighten your day and set the tome for the changes you might want to make. Remembering we don’t have to be perfect, but instead to be accepting and conscious of how we are living, is a sure path to deeper satisfaction and happiness.
