We know one of the pillars to a long, healthy life is eating healthy food and limiting the junk. It’s just that it can be very hard to do, unless your kitchen is stocked in a way that supports it.
Do you know what to buy when you grocery shop so your pantry are stocked with healthy stuff?
Think about this: : You can’t eat what’s not there, but you will eat what is there/
I’m not an all or nothing person; that just doesn’t work. Indulgences are a part of life, and you can make your indulgences pretty healthy overall. You just need to limit the amount and frequency of eating them.
So I’m going to give you a list of must haves for the pantry
Here are some pantry staples you should never be without:
Oils like avocado, coconut, or olive (cold-pressed and organic)
Vinegar: apple cider, balsamic, red wine, and rice ( no added sugar)
Condiments and sauces like fish sauce, dijon mustard, sauerkraut, pickles, kimchi,
Canned goods like anchovies, organic beans, and organic chicken stock, organic tomatoes
Almond, whole wholewheat oat and coconut flour
Ethnic herbs and spices (Italian, Greek, Middle East, Asian for flavor enhancement) sea salt, peppercorns
Nut butters, including peanut and almond
Brown rice, dried lentils, bulgur, quinoa
Dark chocolate, cocoa, molasses, applesauce or maple syrup or maple crystals ( 3/4 cup of syrup or crystals for every cup of sugar called for in a recipe.)
Eating well is easy when you’re prepared. That’s why I wrote my book, Food Becomes You —to help you build a kitchen with a great inventory, learn how to cook healthy and delicious meals again, or maybe for the first time if you’ve been a restaurant eater, , and have fun while doing it!
I’ll be sharing my recommendations for your refrigerator and freezer in a later post.
