Oooph, I’ve got to get back on track.
Do you say this to yourself? I sure do, because life has a way of keeping me from consistently eating in a simple whole foods way. The reasons are many: celebrations, socializing, not getting to the store to replenish my fresh foods, eating on the run, cravings, and using food for energy if I don’t get enough rest.
These typical lifestyle events often lead people to lengthy diet regimens make life pretty austere, which is not fun. It also is not a solution.
The solution to getting back on track is to do a 7 day seasonal cleanse which will restore balance in your body and make it very easy to resume a simple whole foods diet afterwards - fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably organic, nuts, whole grains, seafood, antibiotic free meat, eggs, etc. - with an occasional treat.
Why cleanse?
A seasonal cleanse aligns with your body’s natural need to adapt to changes in your environment. These include the amount of daylight, temperature and humidity fluctuations.
Many years ago I created three seasonal cleanses: Spring, Autumn and New Year. These are the times of year that call for the most adjustments to your environment, including the types of food that are suited for each time of year. When you align with Nature, your body stays in better balance.
Here are just a few effects you may experience from a week long cleanse”
Detoxification: having simple clean foods for a week gives your body a rest from processing toxins that are a part of ultra-processed foods and allows your body time to purge its accumulated toxins
Immunity: imagine how much more able your body will be able to deflect common viruses and bacteria if it isn’t busy fending off toxins in additives and chemicals in commercial foods
Digestion: eating a cleansing menu for 7 days will make the digestive process so much smoother
Inflammation: in as soon as the 3rd day people experience fewer body aches and other signs of inflammation
Skin: it doesn’t take long to see a difference in your skin when sugar, white flour and other inflammatory foods are absent for just one week.
Aligning with Nature: menus are designed to align with the foods most local and in season. Greens in Spring, yellows, whites and reds in Autumn and slow roasting in the New Year. This is Nature’s way of giving you a boost in the nutrients you need most at any given time.
As you can see, a good cleanse reconnects you your body and your mind and spirit with Nature. It is not severe; it gives you time to reconnect with your body, and leads to knowing yourself and your needs on a deeper level.
What’s Next?
Following 7 days of prescribed eating that includes wide flexibility in menu choices, it’s best to reflect on how this week of really clean eating has affected you, both physically and mentally. This will be an incentive to be more mindful in your day to day choices, knowing that in everyday life there needs to be room for flexibility. Staying informed but relaxed and mindful in your day to day choices will keep you in good balance going forward.
